I was invited to speak to a class in the Graduate School of Architecture. Instead of a
conventional lecture, I presented this work-in-progress. I have the students respond
to the contemporary composer Alvin Lucier's 1969 piece 'I Am Sitting in A Room', and
to a live mix I create which mingles various off-site classroom ambiences in different
languages with the on-site ambience. It is conceived to adjoin with another coming
presentation.
This work is an investigation on how we interfere with and orchestrate our listening
environment. In this work-in-progress, the edited feedback from the students and
instructor is paralleled with the on-site live mix. |
